Palawan towns distribute fresh fish, vegetable as relief goods

The relief goods in the towns of Narra and Cuyo are not the usual rice, canned goods or instant noodles, but during the time of coronavirus disease (Covid) -19, the mayors of these towns went creative by shifting from the usual relief goods into something resourceful that also help the local farmers and fisherfolk.

In the social media page “Estra Viva Cuyo” of the Municipal Government of Cuyo, Mayor Mark L. delos Reyes and his staff distributed ready-to-cook sliced vegetable for Pakbet, tomatoes and other vegetable products to their constituents in this island municipality- Cuyo.

Pakbet or Pinakbet is a nutritious Filipino dish made of mixed vegetables.

In Narra, Palawan, its Municipal Mayor Gerandy Danao distributed fresh fish to his constituents.

In his social media page, Mayor Danao did a round to the different barangays of Narra to distribute relief goods, including fish, to residents. Aside from fresh fish, the local residents also received rice, canned goods, noodles, and soap.

Both LGUs received praises and admiration from netizens for being supportive of the local farmers and fisherfolk.

Last week, the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) urged local government units (LGUs) to buy produce directly from farmers.

In the Province of Palawan, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has also urged municipal mayors to buy from farmers and fishermen for their relief goods distribution, to support these low-income farmers and fisherfolks, who also suffered setback due to less economic activities because of Covid-19.
