Twenty-nine (29) candidates of Miss Earth International 2018 arrived in Palawan on October 26, 2018 followed by the 31 candidates on October 27, 2018 at San Vincente town.
The 29 candidates witnessed the signing of Barangay Ordinance establishing a Pawikan Sanctuary in Barangay San Isidro for the purpose of upholding the protection and conservation of endangered and/or threatened species living in the aquatic environment of the Municipality of San Vincente, Palawan which took place at Club Agutaya Beach Resort, October 26, 2018.
Ms. Dixie Mariṅas, vice president for operations of Club Agutaya said, “This is the first ever local ordinance to be made protect a single species.” “One of the top wild life here is the pawikan” she added. Municipal administrator James Inawasan said, “One of the key steps in insuring our sustainable future is of course legislating ordinances, municipal and barangay ordinances that will provide specific guidelines of implementing protecting measures in our environment.”
San Vicente is also famous having a 14.7-kilometer long white beach with sprawling flora and fauna, some of them are considered endangered to include these pawikan or sea turtles. Candidates of Ms. Earth International 2018 are here in Palawan for their Talent, Long Gown and Swimsuit Competitions, which will be held in Puerto Princesa City Coliseum on October 28, 2018.
