Starlink, the global internet provider unit of US billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is now available in the Philippines.
SpaceX announced this on Wednesday, February 22, a few days after Musk announced that the internet service is already available in nordic countries such as Norway, Finland, and Sweden.
The company announced the news in a tweet written in Filipino.
According to SpaceX, “Starlink is the world’s first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls, and more.”
Unlike fiber optic services, Starlink uses direct access to SpaceX’s satellite internet, enabling those in far-flung and isolated areas to have their internet access.
Starlink’s internet may also be used in disaster-hit areas, or those cut off from regular internet and other telecommunication services.
Interest applicants may subscribe for a monthly service fee of P2,700, on top of a one-time hardware fee of P29,320.
Starlink promises to deliver high-speed, reliable, low-latency satellite internet service with download speeds of between 100Mbps and 200Mbps.
