Amidst the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PSU University Student Government (USG) appealed to the municipal mayors of the province, Wednesday, March 18`, to provide transportation aid for students stranded in Puerto Princesa City.
In a PSU-USG Facebook post, the student government expressed its concern about students and residents of municipalities stranded in the city due to inaccessible transportation in the midst of ECQ.
“Despite the desire of some residents to be with their families in this time of emergency, some are working in other towns and were not able to meet the community lockdown leaving them no option but to stay where have due to inaccessible transportation. Some students were also stranded because if the same problem experienced by the residents.”
The student government articulated their desire to request assistance through an open letter to the municipal mayors of the province due to the number of students as well as employees stranded in the city.
“We are writing this letter to respectfully request to the municipal mayors of each of the municipalities of the province of Palawan, to provide an aid through transportation services for the stranded residents of each respective municipalities in Puerto Princesa City. Numerous numbers of students are still in the city due to the aforementioned problem (inaccessible transportation) especially those that are residents of island municipalities. Same problem is also faced by some employees working in the city who were not able to go home because of the unavailability of transportation services.”
PSU-USG also suggested a mitigation for the distribution and transportation of food and sanitizing materials to residents through aids from local transportation services.
“Our concern to our fellow residents extended to the distribution of supply of food and sanitizing materials that they need in this time of calamity. As a suggested aid to suffice the need in transporting goods to the residents, it will be possible to ask for the help of the local transportation services.”
