PSU unveils online flexible learning training for students

Palawan State University (PSU) Committee on the Development and Implementation of the Flexible Learning Options (CODIFLO) launches the Flexible Classroom Appreciation Training for Students (FLEX-CATS) in preparation for the upcoming start of the first semester of AY 2020-2021 on September 1.

CODIFLO premiered the first of the multipart Google Classroom video tutorial series in their Facebook page on Friday, 28 August.

The tutorial was hosted by the university Student Regent and President of the University Student Government (PSU-USG), Elijah Daniel B. Geanga.

The program aims to teach the students to navigate and enroll in Google Classroom which will be used as the learning medium amidst the ongoing efforts to fight COVID-19.

“This self-based training program will use short video tutorials that were created to help students to take online lessons, actively participate in online learning activities, take online assessments and monitor their academic performance,” said Dr. Ramon M. Docto, PSU University President, in a video as he introduced FLEX-CATS to the faculty and students.

“In this training, you will be taught on how to acquire your corporate e-mail or electronic mail to enroll in Google account, you’ll learn how to navigate Google applications and more importantly, you will learn on how to join a class,” Dr. Grace N. Abrina, Director of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), added in a separate video introducing the learning platform.

The memorandum released by the Office of the University President last August 20, proscribes face-to-face instruction due to the pandemic and stated that the university will shift to the online way of teaching through Google Classroom as the official learning platform.

PSU student viewed the program as an effective way of utilizing social media to teach the students since it is easily accessed and it reaches many students in all-over the province and nation.

“Para sa akin, epektibo and programang ito sapagkat ginamit nila ang Facebook, isang social media platform, kung saan makakapagreach out ng mas maraming estudyante ng PSU province-wide o nationwide; lalo na’t ngayong pandemic, mayroon na tayong mga alituntuning kailangang sundin. Dagdag pa rito, organisado, komprehensibo at maayos and pagkakabuo ng video presentation,” said Ryan Jay S. Padul, an incoming 2nd year civil engineering student of the university in a PDN interview.

The video tutorials can be accessed at PSU Flexible Learning Systems Initiative Facebook page and PSU CODIFLO YouTube channel.
