The Sangguniang Kabataan of Brgy. Princess Urduja in the municipality of Narra is exchanging 1 kilo of rice to 5 empty plastic (1.5 Liter) bottle, as part of the Linggo ng Kabatan celebration that started last Aug 29 and end last Sept 1.

The barter program is open to all residents of Princess Urduja across all ages, they aim to collect the plastic to be used as pots for their beautification and farming project in their SK Hall, they will plant it with ornamental plants and vegetables that later on they will give it to their constituents. It is their way also of helping the environment by means of recycling and reuse these waste materials.

According to Urduja SK Chairman Abegail Ubo  they receive a lot of plastic bottles since they start the barter, almost 2 sacks of rice were given to all who participate and around 200 bottles were collected.

“Ang purpose po nun kung bakit kami nagpapa-barter imbes na masayang yung bottles nila, eh anu namin kasi uso po ngayon yung halaman, pang disenyo namin sa aming SK hall, so di ba po maraming nagagawang design dun sa bottle tapos nilalagyan ng halaman, tapos nakapag isip din ako na bigas na lang po ang ipapalit, para magamit at mapakinabangan nila,” Ubo said.

They also receive vegetable seeds from Department of Agriculture, they intend to use it to other plastic bottles, and hopefully if it will be ready for harvest, they will just give it to the residents. Aside from Barter, the barangay SK also launch some activities such as “pautukan” a quiz bee Facebook online competitions, mobile legend tournament, and the most popular one the Group discussion on health issues concerning the pandemic.
