Classrooms in southern Palawan are getting a heavy-duty technological upgrade. Rio Tuba National High School (RTNHS) recently received a substantial package of high-tech gear, including a laser engraver, two 3D printers, specialized robotics toolkits, and a dedicated training fund allocation.
The turnover initiative, carried out by Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corp. (RTNMC) under the banner “Empowering Innovation: Building the Future,” is designed to give rural learners practical, hands-on experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Local educators pointed out that the new equipment addresses a long-standing hurdle for schools far from the provincial capital, allowing students to move past textbook diagrams and begin working directly with digital fabrication, computer-aided design, and automated mechanics. Alongside the physical hardware, the funding allocation is set aside to train teachers on integrating the tools directly into the daily curriculum, ensuring the machines see active use rather than gathering dust in storage.
Representatives from the corporate partner emphasized that supporting technological literacy is part of a broader, long-term commitment to human resource development and lifelong learning across Palawan’s local communities.
For the students of RTNHS, the arrival of advanced manufacturing tools opens a direct pathway to modern technical skills, grounding abstract engineering concepts into tangible creations right on their school workshop tables.
