“This cafe started because of an impulsive decision,” said Shane Joshua Zumarraga, the owner of the Kaizoku Café. “Although I really want to have a business like this, I didn’t expect that it would be too soon. I just had time, and I wanted to invest experience in business instead of being employed.”
Who would have thought that one of the most famous animes worldwide is already a café in Puerto Princesa? – the Kaizoku. It is a one-piece-themed coffee shop and restaurant located at PSU Road, Tiniguiban, which opened on October 20, 2020. “Kaizoku” is a Japanese term that means “pirate.”
Shane shares that he researched everything about business and ways to start a café. He tried to relate his passion for anime with the industry he wanted to be in.
Even with less experience, Shane tried his best to learn how to perfectly brew a coffee with the help of his partner, which has been a big part of running the business. It was also difficult for them, at first, to find the perfect location for the desired business, especially since he had no background in coffee business.
Kaizoku has been running for two months. Its goal is to provide entertainment, satisfying food, beverages, and experience One Piece adventures.
They offer different food and drinks inspired by One Piece such as Florian red velvet, shichibukai milk tea, creme brulee iced coffee, lemonade, and soda float. Also, indulge yourself with their breakfast meals, rice bowls, and snacks such as super burgers and platters.
The presentation of the food makes it more tempting. While waiting for the food to be served, you may play their board games and PS4 and do some fun shoots.
Despite the pandemic, they still managed to run the business because of dedication and inspiration. “As inspired by One Piece anime, Luffy, the main character in the series. Being a pirate for him is being free. Thus, they want their cafe to be like what Luffy desires, “to have endless boundaries, and continue to be better,” says Shane.
