Travelers journeying between Puerto Princesa City and the northern municipalities of Palawan can now enjoy smoother and safer roads, thanks to the completion of the road widening project along Puerto Princesa North Road.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Palawan 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO) spearheaded the endeavor, aimed at improving accessibility and enhancing the overall travel experience for locals and tourists alike.
The project, spanning 1.113 kilometers, entailed the expansion of the road to accommodate a wider shoulder width of 13.40 meters, along with a 2.5-meter paved shoulder width. Utilizing Portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) measuring 0.28 meters thick, reinforced with aggregated subbase course, reinforcing steel, structural concrete, concrete slope protection, and grouted riprap, the upgraded road infrastructure is equipped to handle a greater volume of vehicles, ensuring smoother traffic flow and heightened safety measures.
According to Palawan 3rd District Engineer Amelia B. Fajardo, the completion of this vital infrastructure project marks a significant milestone in the region’s development agenda. The expanded lanes not only facilitate ease of travel but also pave the way for enhanced economic opportunities, particularly in the tourism sector.
With Puerto Princesa City being in close proximity to numerous tourist destinations, the improved connectivity is expected to stimulate increased tourist arrivals, thereby fueling local economic growth.
