As the entire country commemorated the valor and courage of our heroes today, August 25, 2025, government officials and employees, uniformed personnel, barangay officials, civil society groups, students, and local folks in Roxas town in Palawan demonstrated their own form of heroism by cleaning the coastline of Barangay I and Barangay New Barbacan.

The Local Government Unit of Roxas through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) initiated the activity, which also coincided with the birthday celebration of their town’s local chief executive, Mayor Pedy Sabando.

In a statement, Roxas LGU emphasized that the true essence of every celebration and commemoration is through cooperation and helping one another, care for fellow humans and care for the environment.

“Sa pagtatapos ng aktibidad, isang makabuluhang mensahe at pasasalamat ang ipinaabot ng mga opisina na naging inspirasyon para sa lahat na ang tunay na diwa ng pagdiriwang ay nakasalalay sa pagtutulungan at malasakit sa kapwa at kalikasan sa Bayan ng Roxas,” LGU Roxas said.

Coastal cleanup activities are important for protecting marine life, preventing plastic pollution, and safeguarding the health of both the environment and human communities. Through this activity, harmful debris are removed from the coastal areas, which can injure or kill marine animals. It also prevents discarded PET bottles, plastic sachets, and other litters from entering the coastal waters and the oceans. Clean and healthy coastlines are more appealing for recreation and can boost local economies.
