Darus Ibrahim, the oldest citizen in Palawan, recently celebrated his 115th birthday with an additional cash gift of P2,000 from the Palawan government.
Born on January 8, 1908, Ibrahim has lived through a lot of significant events in Philippine history, including World War II and the declaration of Philippine Independence from the United States. He has also seen the progress and development of his hometown, including the establishment of schools, hospitals, and other public services.
Ibrahim’s birthday celebration was a special occasion for his family. They were delighted to receive the additional cash gift from the Palawan government, who was personally given by representatives from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) on May 3 in Barangay Rio Tuba, Bataraza, Palawan.
On top of the additional P2,000, Ibrahim initially received a P10,000 cash incentive from the Palawan government, an incentive given to Palaweño centenarians under the Aid for Senior Citizens program of the Office of the Governor.
The cash incentives he received are expected to be used to buy some of Ibrahim’s necessities like maintenance medicines and supplies.
The Palawan government’s gesture of giving Ibrahim an additional cash birthday gift is not only a sign of their appreciation for his contributions to society but also a way of recognizing the importance of taking care of our elders.
It is a reminder that as a community, we should value and honor those who have lived long and fruitful lives, and who continue to be a source of inspiration and wisdom for us all.
