Carabit, Puerin and Cervantes top Chess Battle Championship 2019

Out of 36 chess players all over Palawan who joined the first Chess Battle Champion by the Tandikan Chess Club, with almost two weeks of competition, Riven Ken Carabit was declared champion for the Kiddie category garnering 5 points, Jessie James Puerin with 4.5 points for the Juniors, and Danny Cervantes took home the Open category crown with 5 points. They all survived the 5 rounds and 5 games.

With 12 players who battled it out per category in Robinsons Mall Palawan last Dec 7 and 14, here are the winners: For the Kiddie first placer goes to Kentrry Ryan Alipoon, next to him is Raymond Robles while Maxine Joy Lopez is the third placer, and Place Paris Bacosa got the last spot.

Juniors winners are Katrina De Guzman-1st place, Andrin De Guzman-2nd, Jade Jehiel Alimato take the 3rd spot and Ryan James Lacson is the 4th placer. For the Open category, the first placer is National Master Ramil Galang, Joseph Gapuz comes in the second spot, third place is Rojie Mejoque, and the last placer is Rolando Jimenez.

Two champions received P3,000 cash and trophy, but it’s a P5,000 cash prize for the open category.

Originally the event should be finished last Dec 7, however, due to many participants, the organizers decided to extend and hold the finals last Dec 14.

Chess Battle for Champion 2019 is headed by Tommy Escalante, Jesus Maberit, Honey Lee Bacolod and Rey Joy Bartolay as an arbiter with supervision by their President, Epitacio Lao, Jr. of Tandikan Chess Club. It was also supported by City Councilor Jimbo Maristela and the City Sports Office.
