Narra tops 2019 Provincial Meet

The young athletes of the municipality of Narra emerged as the over-all back-to-back champions in the elementary and secondary levels of this year’s Provincial Meet held in the town of Bataraza.

In the official medal tally published by Bataraza Public Information Office today, November 15, it showed that Narra grabbed the most gold medals with 69 and then 57 silver medals and 56 bronze medals, respectively.

Narra is followed by the host municipality which garnered a total of 46 gold medals, 37 silver medals, and 43 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the northern island town of Coron bagged the third place with a total of 39 gold medals, 33 silver medals, and 28 bronze medals.

Since the start of the sports competition on November 10, the young athletes of Narra displayed it’s excellence in Wushu, Athletics, Billiards and Long Jump and other sports categories.

As a result, it will fill the most number of athletes who will represent Palawan in the upcoming MIMAROPA Regional Meet.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Narra, through the leadership of Mayor Gerandy Danao, in a recent speech, said that he will see to it that the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie will always remain in the minds of young Narranons.

It can also be recalled that during the annual Municipal Meet held on September, Narra legislator Ceferino Genovea informed that the local legislative council of the town is formulating a resolution to request financial aid from Senator Manny Pacquiao for the construction of additional sports facilities such as swimming pool and training center allocated for the benefit of young Narranian athletes.

“Magrerequest tayo kay Sen. Manny Pacquiao na sana matulungan niya tayo na magkaroon ng budget para sa construction ng swimming pool sa mga athlete natin at rehabilitation ng ating sports complex,” Genovea said.

Meanwhile, Bataraza Mayor Abraham Ibba said that the next Provincial Meet will also be held in their town, promising that their LGU will continue to develop sports facilities inclined to support all the athletes around Palawan.

Uunahan ko na kayo, next year, dito pa rin gaganapin ang Provincial Meet. So by next year, mas madadagdagan pa ang ating mga facilities,” Ibba said.
