‘Subarun’ fun run kicks off; promotes biodiversity conservation

The City Government of Puerto Princesa, PPUR Festival Foundation, PPUR Management Office, SK Federation of Puerto Princesathe and JCI Puerto Princesa Oil officially launched “Subarun” as part of the national event for Subaraw Festival last November 6, 4 AM with more than 1,000 runners.

The success of the event was supported by three biggest mall chains in the country—-SM, Robinsons and NCCC Mall. The runners chose their mall starting point and color of singlet to wear during the event in exchange for eco-bricks. The finish line was at the City Baywalk.

All runners from Robinsons Place Palawan (Red singlet), SM City Puerto Princesa (Blue singlet) and at NCCC Mall Palawan runners wore (Yellow singlet) joined in the bid to raise awareness for biodiversity conservation.

It urged participants to bring one eco-brick in exchange for a free stub and singlet to participate in the event and be part of the Subaraw festival.

All collected eco-bricks will be used for the construction of a comfort room at a public elementary school in the city as one of the beneficiaries of the community development project of JCI Puerto Princesa Oil.

The runners comprised of fitness and health enthusiasts, students, Sanggunian Kabataan Federation of Puerto Princesa City, city government staff, blue and eco-warriors had the same goal in participating the event, which is to raise awareness of the harm to the environment of the single-plastic used wastes. The organizers encouraged the public to creatively reuse single-use plastic waste and urged to be mindful of the packaging of products they consumed daily to lessen the plastic wastes thrown in landfill and produces marine debris that kills marine animals. A cool-down exercise and Zumba ended the morning activity at City Baywalk of Puerto Princesa.
