The Palawan government has provided aid to vulnerable members of the community in Coron by disbursing local social pensions to 197 senior citizens and 53 persons with disabilities (PWDs) on May 3-6.
The pension distribution was carried out as part of the government’s efforts to provide social protection to those most in need.
The pension is a cash transfer program under the provincial government’s Local Social Pension Program that provides a monthly stipend to eligible senior citizens and PWDs.
The program aims to help alleviate poverty and improve the quality of life of beneficiaries by providing them with a regular income stream.
The disbursement of the local social pension in Coron was overseen by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
The beneficiaries were selected based on their eligibility criteria, which include age, disability, and income level. Many of the beneficiaries are living in poverty and rely on the pension to cover their basic needs, such as food and medicine.
The Palawan government’s commitment to social protection is an important step towards reducing poverty and inequality in the province.
