The first batch of Technical-Vocational scholars under the “SPS Alay sa Kabataan” program paid a courtesy call to Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates yesterday, November 14, at the PDRRMO Headquarters in Barangay Irawan, Puerto Princesa.
Comprising 48 individuals aged 18 to 30 from Aborlan, Sofronio Española, and Taytay, all categorized as Out-of-School Youth (OSY), these scholars were warmly received by Governor Socrates, Board Member Rafael V. Ortega, Jr. – Chairman of the Committee on Basic Education, and Mrs. Maria Victoria B. Baaco, Program Manager of the initiative.
Governor Socrates expressed confidence in the scholars’ academic pursuits, underscoring the significance of education and vocational skills in shaping their future trajectories.
BM Ortega highlighted that the program, tailored for those inclined toward technical vocational courses, originated from Governor Socrates’ request.
“The inception of this program is Governor Socrates’ initiative to assist you and your families. Our role was to enact legislation to fulfill the governor’s request… We hope to witness the positive impact of this program on your lives in the future,” emphasized Ortega.
Simultaneously, the scholars conveyed their appreciation to Governor Socrates for enabling them to pursue technical vocational courses under the scholarship program.
They vowed to dedicate themselves to their studies, aspiring to complete their education and secure sustainable livelihoods.
The scholars are set to embark on a two-year Electromechanics Technology course at the Dualtech Training Center in Canlubang, Laguna.
The Provincial Government will cover their tuition/training fees, accommodation, and provide complimentary meals for six months. Additionally, each scholar is eligible for financial assistance of up to P100,000.00, covering various expenses, including airfare to Manila.
After the initial six months of academic training, the scholars will transition to on-the-job training with companies accredited by the training center, receiving corresponding allowances.
Today, November 15, accompanied by staff from the SPS Alay sa Kabataan Program, the scholars will journey to Laguna for a formal introduction to the educational institution.
This scholarship initiative, outlined in Provincial Ordinance No. 3164-A series of 2023, extends opportunities to those interested in Technical and Vocational Courses accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
For those aspiring to become scholars through the program, inquiries can be directed to the SPS Alay sa Kabataan Program office at the provincial capitol.
