In the early hours of Saturday morning, police officers in the island town of Coron arrested two individuals suspected of drug-related activities, marking yet another case in the province’s ongoing battle against illegal narcotics.
The operation, conducted in Sitio Deguiboy, Barangay Guadalupe, came after authorities received a tip from a concerned citizen, according to a report from the Coron Municipal Police Station. Upon responding, officers found two individuals allegedly in possession of multiple sachets containing a substance suspected to be illegal drugs, along with other drug paraphernalia.
The suspects were identified only by their aliases: Michael, a 37-year-old laborer from Barangay Guadalupe, and Des, a 34-year-old cashier from Barangay Poblacion 2. Both have prior criminal records tied to similar offenses, raising concerns about recurring drug activity in the region and the effectiveness of rehabilitation measures.
Authorities are now preparing to file charges against the suspects for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The two remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
