Palawan opens first oxygen plant to help COVID-19 fight

To boost the supply of oxygen in the province, the Palawan Provincial Government on Friday, February 18, formally opened the Southern Palawan Provincial Hospital Oxygen Plant located in the town of Brooke’s Point.

An inauguration and ribbon cutting ceremony attended by representatives from the provincial government and local government unit of Brooke’s Point was held to formally open the said medical oxygen plant.

Present during the occasion were Engr. Saylito Purisima from the Provincial Engineering Office, Provincial Health Office Dr. Faye Labrador, Executive Assistant Merry Beth Caabay and SPPH Chief Dr. Amabel Labor who expressed her gratitude towards the project initiated by the provincial government.

“Dahil sa pandemya ay nangailangan ng maraming supply ng oxygen sa lalawigan para sa mga vital at critical patients. Dati ay nahihirapan tayong makaangkat pa sa Kamaynilaan ng oxygen. Ngayon ay tayo na ang makakapag-supply sa mga karatig pang mga ospital,” Labor said.

Purisima, on the other hand, said that the oxygen plant Will use the same technology used in Australia where it will use 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, and 1% Others. The SPPH Oxygen Plant also has the capacity to make up to 22 Cylinder in a day, which Purisima said is enough to meet the demand of oxygen in Palawan due to the on-going cases of COVID-19.

The provincial government also eyes to open oxygen plants in Northern Palawan Provincial Hospital, Aborlan Medicare Hospital, Coron District Hospital, Cuyo District Hospital and Narra Municipal Hospital.
