The Provincial Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirmed Wednesday that Palawan is still safe from Taal ash fall.

DILG provincial director Rey Maranan told Palawan Daily News (PDN) Wednesday this confirmation is as of Tuesday evening, January 14, following the precautionary measure dated January 13 from their regional office stating the possibility of ash fall in MIMAROPA.

“The response of our field offices as per actual na experience and observation is ‘negative’,” said Maranan.

Maranan stated an immediate verification was conducted by field personnel from different monitoring and preparedness offices in the province, specifically in the Calamianes Group of Islands.

Maranan stated the areas in Calamianes Group of Islands were the focus of verification due to its proximity to the area of incident compared to other parts of Palawan.

He said confirmations were forwarded to them Tuesday evening by DILG officers in the areas, noting there is no trace of ash fall yet due to phreatic explosion of Taal Volcano.

“They (personnel from different monitoring and preparedness offices) were able to connect with our DILG officers in the Calamianes Group. All of them responded na negative na observation ng ash fall,” he said.

However, Maranan also advised the public to be vigilant, yet remain calm as everyone is still safe from Taal ash fall.

“Hopefully ipag-pray natin na iba ang course ng wind direction at hindi makaabot dito sa atin. Patuloy ang ating panalangin, but in case kung ma-experience natin iyan ay hopefully minimal lang naman,” Maranan added.

It was on Sunday, January 12, when a phreatic explosion of Taal Volcano in Batangas occurred.
