The Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) has released a total of P8.5 million from its Social Development & Management Program fund to aid the Municipality of Bataraza in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The amount was spent to purchase over 2,800 sacks of rice and other food items that were turned over to the different barangays of Bataraza for distribution to families affected by the enhanced community quarantine.
CBNC Community Relations Manager Ernesto Llacuna said their company wants to extend help to the residents of Bataraza affected by the extended quarantine period due to the coronavirus disease.
“This is a very difficult time for all us. We hope that we could somehow ease a little the burden of our fellow Batarazans. Hand-in-hand, through the Bayanihan spirit we can surpass this crisis,” Llacuna said.
Around 22,000 families in Bataraza benefitted from the recently distributed relief goods from the company. CBNC is also set to donate funds to the Provincial Government of Palawan to help in the relief efforts of the Province in other municipalities affected by the ECQ.
The Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) fund of each barangay was utilized for this project. Mines & Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has authorized its regional offices across the country to allow mining companies to re-align their unutilized SDMP fund to assist their host and neighboring communities, as well as non-impacted areas, after the Philippines declared the “State of Calamity”.
The company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds were also utilized to support front liners fighting against the coronavirus disease.
