Palawan’s very own 3rd Marine Brigade has been awarded as the “Marine Brigade of the year” during the 122nd Anniversary of the Philippine Navy yesterday, held in Naval Station Jose Andrada, Manila.
Due to COVID-19, the Philippine Navy conducted the event with only selected invited personnel, who were well-aware of the physical distancing protocol set by the health department, and was witnessed by the public and all Navy units across the country through the social media.
With the theme, “Sailing these Turbulent Times Towards our Maritime Nation’s Defense and Development,” this year’s event led by PN Flag Officer in Command, VAdm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo had started with a simultaneous half-mast flag raising ceremony, a silent prayer intended for all frontliners—alive or departed, and the synchronized blowing of horn and sirens of their ships.
During the anniversary celebration, the award, the “Philippine Marine Corps of the Year” was known that this was rooted to “remarkable” job of the 3rd Marine Brigade for the whole duration of 2019.
“The 3rd Marine Brigade gained remarkable and unprecedented achievements during the period in review from 01 January to 31 December, 2019. The pursuit of its mission—to campaign for peace and development in each area of operation. The Brigade continuously brings pride, honor and admiration, not only for the AFP but also for the entire Filipino nation,” the merit says.
BGen. Nestor Herico, commander, 3rd Marine Brigade, credited their success by the unwavering support of all their stakeholders and the Palaweños.
Herico added.
During the said solemn celebration, through a video presentation, stakeholders across the country likewise expressed their words of gratitude to the Philippine Navy.
And among of the people who gave their congratulatory message to Philippine Navy were Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Felimon Santos Jr. for maintaining order in the archipelago and the safety of the people; Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana; VAdm. Bacordo; and AFP Commander in Chief, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.
VAdm. Bacordo pointed out the important roles that the Philippine Navy is playing for more than a century. He also thanked his men and women, that according to him, for giving a committed service to country and the entire Filipino people.
“During these turbulent times, everyone should work hand-in-hand in protecting communities from this pandemic while keeping an eyes on the horizon—as we transform the Philippine Navy—from a rising Navy into a modern multi-able Navy—responsive to our maritime nation, defense and development,” VAdm. Bacordo’s recorded message for all of them.
