Bahagyang umangat ang dami ng mga turistang dumarayo sa Puerto Princesa City mula January-June ngayong taon kumpara noong nakalipas na 2017.

Base sa talaan ng City Tourism Office (CTO), umaabot sa 601,889 ang naitatala ngayong taon habang 567,515 lamang noong nakalipas na taon.

Mataas ito ng 6,06 porsiyento kung ikukumpara sa parehong period. Tumaas din ngayong taon sa nabanggit na kuwarter ang bilang ng foreign tourists na 209,989 kumpara noong 2017 na mayroon lamang 185,844, kapareho rin ng domestic na may 391,900 ngayong 2018 habang noong 2017 ay 379,697 lamang. Ayon kay CTO Information Officer Michie Meneses, tiwala ang kanilang opisina na patuloy ang pag-angat ng tourist arrivals hanggang matapos ang taon.

Matatandaan na nitong buwan lamang ay nagpalabas ng mga travel advisories ang British at Canadian Embassies sa kanilang mga mamamayan dahil sa lumabas na impormasyong bantang kidnapping ng umano’y Abu Sayyaf Group kung saan kasamang nabanggit sa abiso ang Palawan. “Confident naman ang City Tourism na aangat pa rin ang tourist arrivals natin sa kabila ng mga advisories.

Katunayan hindi naman nararamdaman ‘yon ngayon (epekto ng travel advisories),” tugon ni Meneses sa tanong ng media sa pamamagitan ng kaniyang mensahe sa messenger. Dagdag pa niya, wala pa silang natatanggap na reklamo mula sa mga tourism players sa lungsod hinggil sa kanselasyon ng tour.

Sa katunayan aniya, tuloy ang nakatakdang international convention na gaganapin sa lungsod ngayong Oktubre kung saan tinatayang nasa 10,000 delegado ang inaasahang darating sa pagtitipon. Kinumpirma rin ni Meneses ang tuloy-tuloy na international flights at may isa pang parating sa October mula sa Xiamen.

Sinabi pa ng tagapagsalita ng CTO na target ng kanilang opisina ang lima hanggang 10 porsiyentong pagtaas kada taon mula sa tourist arrival, pero nitong 2017 umabot pa sa mahigit 30% ang iniangat gayong iisa pa lamang noon ang international flight.

“Naniniwala ang City Tourism na mas aangat pa tayo this year,” ani pa ni Meneses.

Samantala, sa pakikipag-ugnayan naman ng Palawan Daily News kay Engr. Percy Malonesio, manager ng Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)-Puerto Princesa, normal parin ang dami ng flights maging internasyunal man o domestic sa kabila ng mga ibinabang travel advisories sapagkat umaabot parin sa 52-54 ang bilang ng flight sa araw-araw.
