The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is set to continue delivering rain to the western section of southern Luzon and Visayas, including Palawan, over the next 24 hours, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Weather specialist Grace Castañeda from Pagasa issued a caution to residents in these areas, urging them to take precautions against potential flash floods or landslides.

“Patuloy na umiiral ang habagat dito sa may western section ng southern Luzon at Visayas kung saan ito ay magdudulot pa rin ng mga mataas na tiyansa ng pag-ulan lalo na sa western section ng Visayas at ng southern Luzon,”Castañeda said.

‘Mag-ingat pa rin po ang ating mga kababayan sa posibilidad ng pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa,” Castañeda emphasized.

Pagasa’s forecast indicated that Mimaropa (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) and western Visayas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to habagat.

In contrast, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Castañeda clarified that the low-pressure area in the eastern section of Luzon is unlikely to develop into a cyclone.

However, it could enter the country’s boundary, and its trough or extension may bring rains over the western section of Luzon in the coming days.

Furthermore, PAGASA has not issued any gale warning signal for any part of the archipelago’s seaboard, assuring that small vessels are safe to sail.
