TESDA Palawan prepares trainees for green jobs, introduces Green TVET

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) –Palawan integrates environmental awareness, sustainable practices, and eco-friendly innovations in its Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program also known as Green TVET, which ensures that Filipino workers are ready for green jobs and industries for tomorrow.

It said that Green TVET matters because it responds to climate change challenges, builds a green-skilled future ready future, creates sustainable livelihood opportunities, promotes eco-friendly and sustainable practices, and strengthens environmental responsibility in communities.

“Green TVET is more than a program…it is a commitment to build a greener, stronger, and more resilient future for our people and our province. Hand-in-hand let us cultivate a culture of sustainability and embrace innovation that protects our natural resources while creating opportunities for decent work and improved quality of life,” said TESDA Palawan provincial director Gerardo A. Mercado.

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the TESDA-Palawan through its training institution, Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trades (PPSAT) hold a Curriculum Consultation to in line with the TESDA Circular No. 032 series of 2024 which mandates the implementation of the Enhanced Green TVET Framework.

Present during the consultation were representatives from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS), Palawan State University (PSU), City Government of Puerto Princesa through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO), Project Zacchaeus Cooperative-Eco Kolek, a non-government organization assisting informal waste collectors in the city, business owner of Maria Maria, a Palawan-based sustainable fashion brand, among others.

Dr. Sianita C. Tadlas, Vocational School Administrator III and head of PPSAT, explained that their institution is committed to embedding sustainability competencies, green skills and environmentally responsive practices into their competency-based curriculum. She further said that the activity responds to the industry needs and also contributes to the creation of a workforce that is future-ready, environmentally-conscious and globally competitive.

“At PPSAT we believe progress and sustainability must go hand in hand. Through Green TVET we empower Filipinos with world-class skills while nurturing a greener and more resilient Philippines. Together, let is build skills that protect both people and the planet,” Dr. Tadlas said.

Green TVET is important in the country to support its transition to a green economy by preparing workers, equipping them with skills necessary for green jobs, fostering environmental consciousness, and promoting sustainable development. This aligns with national development plans and addresses climate change by promoting resource efficiency, renewable energy, and circular economy principles.
