Students in the public elementary and secondary schools in Puerto Princesa will soon receive their respective uniforms and school supplies once the proposed Student’s Assistance Parogram will passed by the City Council.
City Councilor Victor “Bitoy” Oliveros, who is also the chairperson of the committee on education said that a proposed student’s assistance program ordinance that will provide school uniforms and school supplies to students in public elementary and secondary schools.
“Ordinansa na magbibigay ng complete uniform at school supplies sa mga estudyante sa pampublikong paaralan sa Puerto Princesa City. Approved on its second and calendared for its third and final reading,” Oliveros said.
Oliveros who is the brainchild of the ordinance institutionalizing the students assistance program for elementary and secondary public school students in Puerto Princesa by providing uniforms and school supplies and providing funds therefor emphasized that Article XVI Section 1 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution mandates the State to protect and promote the right of all citizens to quality education at all levels and to take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all.
In his ordinance, he also explained that Republic Act No. 10533 Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 recognizes the need to provide adequate support mechanisms to ensure that no learner is deprived of education due to socioeconomic constraints.
Because of this, the City Government of Puerto Princesa acknowledges the financial challenges faced by families in providing basic school necessities such as uniforms and supplies which re critical to fostering conducive learning environment.
