The Malaysian transport ministry said on Wednesday, December 3, that the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the longest-running aviation mystery, will resume this December.

In a statement, the ministry said that Ocean Infinity will conduct the search in targeted areas where the aircraft is believed to have come to rest.

“The search will focus on areas assessed to have the highest probability of locating the aircraft, in accordance with the service agreement signed between the Government of Malaysia and Ocean Infinity on March 25,” the ministry said.

Ocean Infinity will deploy underwater drones that will scan the seabed to locate any debris belonging to the aircraft.

On March 8, 2014, the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 carrying 239 passengers and crew disappeared from radar while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Several joint search operations were launched but failed to locate the missing plane within the primary search zone.

The disappearance is widely regarded as one of the greatest aviation mysteries and led to one of the most intensive and expensive search operations ever conducted.

During the search efforts, several pieces of aircraft debris were recovered along the coasts of Africa and the Indian Ocean, though only a few were confirmed to be from MH370.

Families of the victims continue to seek answers from the government, as their hope of finding the missing plane has not faded.
