Yamang Bukid-Palawan ventured into dairy production through the Carabao Enterprise Development Program of the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) in a bid to provide Palaweño children with enough milk and help combat malnutrition.
The PCC provided a total of 11 heads of Murrah Buffaloes, 10 of which are female carabaos with one bull.
The Murrah buffalo is a breed of water buffalo, scientifically known as Bubalus bubalis are mainly raised for milk production. It has been used to improve the milk production of dairy buffalo in Italy, Bulgaria, Brazil and Egypt.
In its social media post on Saturday, February 22, 2020, Yamang Bukid proudly announced their partnership with the PCC which they said will help substantial number of children in the Puerto Princesa City and in Palawan.
The PCC’s Carabao Enterprise Development Program is geared towards better nutrition, higher levels of income and improved general well-being of the rural farming families through the conservation, propagation and promotion of water buffalo as important source of milk and meat. Aside from its contribution to national food security, the program also geared towards the upliftment of nutritional status, increase income and improve the socio-economic conditions of farm families.
The PCC, operating as an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to propel sustainable growth of the livestock industry, is mandated to conserve, propagate, and promote the Carabao as a source of milk, meat, draft power and hide to benefit the rural farmers.
PCC has 12 regional centers with five in Luzon, four in the Visayas, and three in Mindanao.
