The national government announced that a total of over 3 million minors have received their jabs against COVID-19 since the national roll-out of pediatric vaccination.
With the steady supply of vaccines in the country, the Department of Health (DOH) allowed the vaccination of 12 to 17-years-old. This was also after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the amendment of Pfizer-BioNTech’s EUA and deemed it safe for minors according to studies.
This was also in preparation for the reopening of face-to-face classes in low-risk areas.
In Puerto Princesa City, the COVAC piloted vaccination for minors on October 30. Since then, 557 children have received their first dose while 260 are now fully vaccinated totalling 817.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, there are 12.7 million eligible to get the jab in 2021.
Meanwhile, the national government announced on November 11 that they will be implementing a National COVID-19 Vaccination Days from November 29 to December 30 in hopes of ramping up the numbers of vaccinated individuals.
15 million Filipinos or 5 million vaccinees per day are expected to be catered on the 3-day “Bayanihan Bakunahan” vaccination event.
