The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) investigated the alleged wastewater coming from a hotel located in BM Beach that might pollute the seawater of Puerto Princesa City.

Forester Felizardo Cayatoc, Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer of DENR-Puerto Princesa, said that they acted on the complaint regarding the suspected wastewater coming from a hotel located in the beachfront.

He said that a team was formed to look into the matter and to validate the truthfulness of the report.

“May lumalabas na tubig sa aplaya ng BM allegedly from one of the hotels. Yun ang titignan nila ngayon at kung meron mang paglabag ay bibigyan ng Notice of Violation (NOV),” he said.

The discharge and dumping of untreated wastewater directly to bodies of water is a clear violation of the Presidential Decree 1067 also known as the Water Code of the Philippines.

Cayatoc said that they will continue to gather facts and check whether the undisclosed hotel has violated environmental laws. If found positive, their office will take the necessary and appropriate action.

“Ito ay imbestigahan, titignan at kung wastewater man yun ay violation ito ng Water Code,” he explained.
