As part of the upcoming celebration of the National Correctional Consciousness Month in October, the Provincial Jail Management Division (PJMD) kicked off a sportsfest activity yesterday, August 15.
The event features various sporting events, including Basketball, Pool, Volleyball, Chess, and Dama, designed for the participation of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) within the correctional facility.
During the brief program, Provincial Jail Warden PCOL Gabriel C. Lopez (Ret) expressed gratitude to the collaborators who contributed to the success of the tournament.
“We extend our thanks to Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates, Vice Governor Leoncio N. Ola, and the Provincial Health Office for their care and support here. The timing of this sportsfest is ideal and was collectively decided upon. Taking care of our health is crucial, and that’s why my constant reminder is that even without physical games, we must engage in exercise,” Lopez said in Filipino.
Meanwhile, those involved solemnly pledged to elevate their sportsmanship and foster deeper camaraderie among the PDL athletes taking part.
The program ended with a toast led by Provincial Jail Warden Lopez, marking a positive start to the sportsfest. This event aims to improve the prisoners’ health and encourage teamwork, self-control, and a positive community feeling within the correctional facility.
