And talaga ang unang magsu-suffer diyan yung pinagkabitan ng ilaw which is yung mga trees. Hindi pa natin alam kung how long it will last but siguro makikita natin yung effect after 1 year of consistent artificial light they are receiving.”

-Jovic Fabello Spokesperson of PCSD

“Scientific studies show that light pollution poses a serious threat in particular to nocturnal wildlife, having negative impacts on plant and animal physiology. It can confuse the migratory patterns of animals, alter competitive interactions of animals, change predator-prey relations, and cause physiological harm. The rhythm of life is orchestrated by the natural diurnal patterns of light and dark; so disruption to these patterns impacts the ecological dynamics.”

“An ethical question to the City Administration regarding the environment now arises: Is the beautification of the Acasia Tunnel well worth the price of the environmental threat it creates?”

“In my opinion, it is not. We do not hold dominion over the environment of Acasia Tunnel. Though we do not recognize it, the Acasia Tunnel’s environment is a complex living system that generously sustains all forms of life there. It opens itself as a ground of survival and sustenance. However, instead of experiencing the natural environment of Acasia Tunnel as our home, we view it as a place of commerce only for its use, like for tourism industry only, and nothing more. If we are to view it as our home, we are likewise bound to recognize and experience the innate value of beings that take part in the various physical processes in the ecosystem that all contribute to the maintenance of life in the Acasia Tunnel. And to disrupt the ecosystem of Acasia Tunnel by light pollution would be tantamount to an exploitation of it.”
