The City Government of Puerto Princesa will join other local government units, institutions and organizations in the observance of Earth Hour 2021 on Saturday, March 27, 2021.
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature which is held annually. It encourages individuals, communities, and businesses to turn-off non-essential electric lights for one hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm as a symbol of commitment to Mother Earth and at the same time, raise awareness for energy consumption and effects on the environment.
Atty. Carlo B. Gomez, City Environment and Natural Resources Officer said that their Office came up with a plan to observe the Earth Hour through a video presentations from the Earth Hour organizers. The videos will be broadcasted in large screens in various towns and cities, in all participating countries. The City ENRO has also prepared a video of its environmental programs, activities and initiatives, which will also be showed alongside the WWF Earth Hour videos.
He is encouraging City residents to join on the occasion by turning off their electric lights.
“Ang concept ng earth hour is simultaneous video presentation, at sabay sabay na pag-switch off ng ilaw from 8:30pm to 9:30pm,” Atty. Gomez said.
There are two selected venues for the observance of Earth Hour such as SM City Puerto Princesa, and Vietville, while possible third location within the City’s central business district is still worked out. The number of performers and attendees are limited in compliance to the government’s restriction of mass gathering and large crowd.
The City Government through the City ENRO has partnered with Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc., Vietville, Palawan Pawnshop, SM City Puerto Princesa, Palawan Geographic Society, WTEI, and other private sector organizations and civic groups for the activity.
