Five women were hailed for their dedication to serve the community and were awarded the Outstanding Women of Puerto Princesa 2019 during the Balayong Festival Mayor’s Award in celebration of National Women’s Month.
The City recognized the achievement of these women and the roles they played in helping push the development of the community. The event aims to sustain and contribute in empowering women. The awards were in 5 categories which are: outstanding woman for good governance and public service, academe, health, family and business.
Mrs. Evelyn O. Apellido was cited for Good Governance and Public Service. She is the Supervising Statistical Specialist at the Philippine Statistic Authority for almost 30 years. She has been helping several people by assisting illegitimate children to use the surname of their fathers.
Mrs. Luz R. Asebeque was awarded as the Outstanding Woman for Academe as she has been an ambassador of HOPE to all her clientele in Alternative Learning System (ALS) due to her dedication and strong desire to uplift the literacy of academe are out-of-school youth.
The Outstanding Woman for Health was awarded to Mrs. Edna Rafols Ubaldo, a pharmacist and has been involved in many outreach programs and medical missions. She also organized her own medical and dental mission team for less fortunate communities in the city.
Mrs. Rosario C. Rodriguez was awarded as the Outstanding Woman for Business as she owns the Arena Island Turtle Sanctuary, which received several international awards. Her advocacy is dedicated to conserve the marine and to protect the environment.
Mrs. Wenefreda J. Arcegono was awarded as the Outstanding Woman for Family. She managed to raise five children—three of them became police officers while the other two are teachers—without a husband as he died due to car accident when she was only 37. She is also a proud member of Cuyunon Tribe and was selected as the tribal chieftain.
Mayor Lucillio Bayron said that “I am proud for all the awardees and honored to present them the Mayor’s Award. Congratulations to all recipetiants and may you continue on inspiring others Princesaians to emulate your persistence, hard work and determination.”
