Puerto Princesa to host 2019 Batang Pinoy National Championships

Puerto Princesa will be the venue of the 12th Philippine Youth Games – Batang Pinoy 2019 National Championships on August 25 to 31.

It will be organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Department of Education (DepED) to be supported by the City Hall.

The Philippine Youth Games – Batang Pinoy is a national sports program that was enacted through Executive No. 44 “Declaring the Philippine Youth Games – Batang Pinoy as the National Sports Development Program for Children” that was signed by former president Joseph Ejercito Estrada on December 2, 1998.

The qualifying games for the national championship for Mindanao cluster was held in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte last February 2 – 9, followed by the Visayas cluster that was held in Iloilo City last February 23 – March 2, and Luzon cluster in Hagan, Isabela last March 16 – 23.

The qualifiers will battle it out in: archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesport, futsal, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, indoor and beach volleyball, cycling, gymnastics, judo, billiards, muaythai, rugby football, triathlon, soft tennis, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.

Puerto Princesa City also hosted the 4th Philippine Youth Games – Batang Pinoy National Championship last December 1 to 7, 2002 where almost 3500 athletes attended.
