After 10 long years, I have this privilege to be connected again to my beloved province, Palawan.
Let me introduce myself to everyone especially to the new breed of Palaweños who were 5 or 10 years old younger when I left this land or I should say, who don’t even know who I am.
I’m an alumna of PSU, a Konrad Adenauer ADMU College of Communication, Probe and Nuffic Dutch in Europe fellows, where I took my International Course in Broadcast Journalism.
I received the highest recognition in my broadcast journalism stint after being awarded with the KBP Best Radio Reporter/Personality for 3 consecutive years, a recognition from VACC, my own city, Puerto Princesa council, became one of the candidates for Journalists of the Year and a lot more.
Millennials, I am Lourdes Escaros (Paet), an anchor, media trainer, speaker, a college professor, a dog lover and currently the Vice Chairman of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP).
I’ve been in this profession for 23 long years, where I started in GMA, DYPR (ABS-CBN affiliate) and RMN (local as Station Manager) and in a national network as a Chief Reporter /Anchor.
My column, a first one, hopefully not my last (laugh), is a chance to greet you, everyone, a new life and a new year.
YEAR THAT WAS
The past year, 2019, was a rollercoaster of events, local, national and even in the international scene.
In the local scene, the DIVISION OF PALAWAN into three provinces made a different impact on everyone, both bad and good.
Bad for obvious reasons and good for political reasons (laugh).
In national, the verdict of MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE case and natural disasters made the headlines.
While abroad, the Trump Impeachment heads anywhere, more than the BREXIT and his own “GREAT WALL”.
YEAR TO COME
Drivers
Let us pray that the City Council of Puerto Princesa has more than balls to protect their citizens against poor driver behavior; this will lead them to have a better idea to fix the city’s traffic woes.
Sorry to tell you this, I was a victim of these “barubal” tricycle drivers, not just once but myriad travels.
Electricity
This problem exists from medieval times to present (laugh).
When everyone enjoys the benefit of the technology, the city remains in “doom”, like the mindset of our local officials (laugh).
Let us see, how Mayor Lucilo Bayron and his allies work on this.
It doesn’t need LAWS, Mayor, only BALLS!
