Government-owned National Power Corporation (NPC) has inaugurated on Thursday, February 16, a P691M 69-kilovolt (kv) transmission line that stretches from the northern town of Roxas to neighboring Taytay, in Palawan.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Office of the Governor Executive Assistant III Christian Albert Sabando Miguel representing Palawan Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates.

In a message from the governor, Miguel said that the transmission line would provide reliable electricity for far-flung Palawenos in the area.

“While the local government units in Palawan are working to address this perennial issue, there is a need to seek support from various government agencies to build better and more resilient power facilities. We hope that this ceremonial inauguration serves as proof of the continuous effort of the government towards providing an effective, accessible, and reliable power facility in Palawan,” Miguel said.

Meanwhile, NPC president and chief executive Fernando Martin Roxas, in a statement, said that the project’s completion is expected to address the energy crisis situation in Palawan.

“With this new transmission line, we’ll not only improve power dispatch and eventually decrease system loss, but we can also accommodate more power generators to cater to the growing electricity needs of Palawan,” Roxas said.

NPA, as mandated by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001, is tasked to perform missionary electrification in islands not connected to the main transmission grid.

The Roxas-Taytay Transmission Line is one of NPC’s projects funded by the national government’s Special Allotment Release Order.
