Some residents of Barangay Macarascas, Puerto Princesa City profited from the vegetables and other crops that they planted as part of the government’s cash for work program under Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).

The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Puerto Princesa headed by Demetrio Lopez Jr. said that the TUPAD beneficiaries earned from the variety of vegetables that now bear fruits, harvested and sold to buyers.

TUPAD, a Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) program, is a short-term, community-based emergency employment program that provides wage employment to disadvantaged, underemployed, seasonal, and displaced workers in the country for a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of 30-days. The program aims to provide immediate economic relief by offering temporary jobs in community-focused tasks like clean-ups, maintenance, and repairs, helping beneficiaries recover from financial hardship and contribute to their communities.

From merely P11,000 last July 2025, TUPAD beneficiaries in Macarascas earnings has ballooned to P30,000 for this month of September 2025.

Barangay Kagawad Jocelyn Samson said that all the earnings from vegetable production were deposited in a depository bank to ensure that the funds will be utilized productively in the future. She said that the project was made possible through the support of the Punong Barangay Jane Villarin and City PESO and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
