Palawan government inaugurates 1st Molecular Lab for RT-PCR testing

The Palawan Provincial Government inaugurated on Friday, January 14, its first own molecular laboratory for COVID-19.

The Provincial Health Office – Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (PHO-MBL) on Monday, January 17, will start to cater specimen referrals for Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR).

Cyrus Caabay, Medical Technologist III and acting program manager of the said laboratory, disclosed that they have just finished an online orientation and are ready to accept referrals coming from different municipalities in the province.

“Tayo po ay nagsagawa ng pre-operational activity which is ito po ay specimen referral for RT-PCR COVID-19 testing for the province of Palawan, para po malaman ng ating mga hospitals, RHUs at MHOs ang ating magiging proseso at mga gagawin sa pagsisimula po ng ating operasyon,” Caabay explained.

Various medical representatives from local RHUs, private hospitals provincial wide have attended the said online orientation, according to Caabay.

The PHO-MBL is a project initiated by the provincial government through Palawan Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez and the Department of Health (DOH).

The said molecular laboratory is expected boost up testing capacity for suspected COVID-19 patients as the province faces rising cases of the coronavirus.
