The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday, August 12, released a statement that they will include pregnant women in priority group A3 category for COVID-19 vaccination.
According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, they will revise the current rule to include pregnant women who are now part of the Expanded A3 group.
Vergeire stressed that based on the recommendation of experts, COVID-19 vaccines are safe for pregnant women and that vaccination against COVID-19 is actively recommended in the second or third trimester.
“High risk pregnant women in their first trimester may also be vaccinated provided that benefit and risks have been fully explained and upon securing medical clearance from their doctor,” Vergeire said.
Vergeire also said that the only vaccine that cannot be given to pregnant women is ‘Gamaleya Sputnik V’.
