DAVAO CITY – After several years of vacancy, delay and postponements on the selection, Dr. Ramon M. Docto is now the 8th President of the Palawan State University. This after the Board of Regents convened and made the selection at the Park Inn by the Radisson Davao, yesterday, July 6.

In an exclusive interview with Palawan Daily News, Dr. Docto expressed his gratitude to all his supporters.

Docto envisions PSU to be “[A] proactive state university in the East Asia Growth Area that provides excellent and relevant higher education for resiliency and sustainable development.” To achieve this, he wants to focus on four areas: Pursue academic excellence, Sustain research, extension and production culture, Intensify resources generation and expand linkages, and Strengthen the external campuses operations.

The students and the faculty and staff of the University have expressed their excitement upon learning the news that Dr. Docto has been selected.

Last month, after the supposedly scheduled date of the selection was postponed, faculty and staff conducted a prayer vigil.

There were five candidates for the presidency that included Dr. Docto, Dr. Hanli Taha, Dr. Patrick Regionel, Dra. Gabilyn Orilla and Dra. Sonia Bonagua.

During the BOR’s selection, Dr. Orilla, Dr. Regionel, and Dr. Docto earned 1,3,4 votes respectively on the first round, and Dr. Regionel and Dr. Docto had 3 and 4 votes each.

On Monday, July 9, the 57-year-old Dr. Docto will assume his first day of presidency for the next four years. He was born in Cauayan, Negros occidental and was the ETEEAP director prior to his election as PSU president. He holds BS General Science, MA in Educational Administration and Ph. D. in Environmental Science.
