The Provincial Legal Extension Services Program (PLESP), under the Provincial Legal Office of the Palawan Provincial Government, successfully conducted a two-day event of free legal consultation and seminar/orientation in the town of Bataraza on August 3-4, 2023. Active participation was seen from twenty (20) barangays in the said municipality.

The first day of the activity featured a seminar/orientation attended by seventy-four (74) individuals, including Barangay Lupon Tagapamayapa and other barangay and LGU officials.

Key topics discussed during the event were the Katarungang Pambarangay (KP); Duties and Accountabilities of Government Officials and Employees (RA 6713; RA 3019 & RA 11032); RA 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act; Anti-Trafficking in Persons; and RA 11596 or An Act Prohibiting the Practice of Child Marriage.

On the second day, eighty-one (81) individuals received free legal consultations, addressing issues related to land disputes, barangay problems, small claims, VAWC, and more.

Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Joshua U. Bolusa led the mentioned activities and services, with support from Atty. Mary Joy Ordaneza-Cascara, as well as other lawyers from PLO, including Atty. Vicente Escala, Atty. Gellian Grace Baaco, Atty. Mae Joyce Magbanua-Anjalin, Atty. Christine Aribon, Atty. Vanessa Bautista of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), and LGOO Ivy Diane Piramide of DILG Palawan.

The event was also supported by seven lawyers from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Palawan Chapter, namely Atty. Susanne C. Lacson, Atty. John Mark V. Caralipio, Atty. Kristofer Manuel I. Aralar, Atty. Ophilia Marie Dalonos-Aralar, Atty. Roy Michael N. Madulid, Atty. Queen Harra Sheigila Pantanosas, Atty. Marita D. Bolos-Buenavista, and Atty. Renato DM Garbo III of NBI Palawan.

The program aims to personally provide legal services to the citizens of all municipalities in Palawan, as directed by Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates. Bataraza is the fifth municipality to receive such legal services from PLESP. Previously, PLESP has visited the towns of San Vicente, Roxas, Quezon, and Taytay in the past months.

The local government of Bataraza, led by Mayor Abraham Ibba, Vice Mayor Johnmain Jaafar, and Acting Municipal Administrator Valentino Palasigue, fully supported the said activity.
