The Calamianes Group of Islands, composed of four neighboring municipalities in the northern tip of the Province Palawan recently intensified their efforts to quell the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by installing portable handwashing facilities in strategic areas.

According to Busuanga MDRRM Officer Allan Guian, through the collaborative efforts of Calamianes Resilient Network (CRN), LGU’s and other partner agencies, a handwashing facility project for the municipalities of Busuanga, Coron, Culion and Linapacan was materialized as a support to DOH’s message of frequent and proper handwashing to fight the contagious disease.

He said that in 45 handwashing units, each municipality received 10 units, except for Coron that they received 15 units because of their bigger population.

In the Municipality of Busuanga, according to MDRRMO chief, they have already installed some units of the said facility.

“Like po sa amin, ang na-install namin dito sa Busuanga ay pito na,” he said.

Guian said that they had set up those materials to the public places so that people will have an easy access to handwashing areas.

He stated that the people of Calamian, especially in Busuanga, welcome the very useful facility in containing the spread of COVID-19.

Gumawa po ng proposal at na-approve naman po,” he explained when asked about the project’s source of fund.

Last May 15, Busuanga Mayor Elizabeth Cervantes on her Facebook post said that the handwashing facilities were readied for the distribution for the municipalities of Coron, Busuanga and Culion.
