Ikinatuwa ni Palawan 2nd District Representative Jose Chaves Alvarez ang ginawang direktiba ni Mayor Lucilo Bayron na palakasin ang Night-Time Economy (NTE) sa lungsod kabilang na dito ang pagbibigay ng insentibo sa mga negosyanteng magbubukas ng mga negosyo, partikular sa City Baywalk.

Ang NTE ay sumasaklaw sa mga aktibidad at negosyong bukas mula alas-6 ng gabi hanggang alas-6 ng umaga. Layunin nitong hikayatin ang mas maraming kainan, tindahan, at pasyalan na manatiling bukas sa gabi upang mas mapagsilbihan ang mga turista at residente.

“Masayang masaya naman ako dahil si Mayor Bayron syempre nagre-react na ngayon. Ako hindi ako nagsasabi kay Mayor Bayron, ‘yung mga kapitan na nakasama siguro [sa Davao] nagkwento sa kaniya.”

“Kung ginagawa ni Mayor Bayron na pairalin ang magandang ekonomiya sa gabi aba, Palakpakan ko siya!,” pahayag pa niya.

Matatandaan na nito lang Disyembre ng nakaraang taon ay nagsagawa ng agri-tourism benchmarking ang kongresista sa lungsod ng Davao kasama ang mahigit 53 barangay kapitan mula sa Puerto Princesa. Layunin ng aktibidad na makakalap ng mga programa at inisyatiba na maaaring ipatupad sa lungsod, lalo na sa pagpapalakas ng turismo.

Ayon pa kay Alvarez, napansin niya rin umano ang tila pagbaba ng bilang ng mga bumibisita sa lungsod matapos siyang kumain sa isang restaurant sa Puerto Princesa noong Sabado, Enero 10. Aniya, dati ay karaniwang punuan ang nasabing kainan dahil sa dami ng turista, subalit ngayon ay halos hindi na napupuno ang mga mesa.

Hirit pa ng kongresista, huwag na umano sanang palitan si Bayron kung ang nais lamang nito ay pagandahin at paunlarin ang lungsod mula sa mga nasabing programa.

Samantala, ibinunyag naman ng kongresista na mayroon pa silang ibang lugar na nakatakdang bisitahin upang ipagpatuloy ang nasabing benchmarking. Kabilang umano sa mga ito ay ang Iloilo, Cebu, at Bohol.
