Palawan’s Indigenous People’s (IP) representative to the Sanggunian Panlungsod, on Tuesday, February 8, proposed a resolution during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan requesting a P2 million fund for the construction of an IP building in Rizal town.
Purita Seguritan, IP Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of Palawan, presented a resolution requesting funds to provide Rizal its own Municipal IP Building which she says would used for events, meetings and assemblies of the members of the indigenous community in the said town.
“I intend to pass a resolution requesting for the construction of a Municipal IP Building in Rizal town,” Seguritan said in Tagalog.
Seguritan said that the measure was adapted from Rizal’s IPMR Silico Valdestamon, who initially proposed a local resolution in the municipality for the same request.
“I adopted this resolution from Rizal’s IPMR who initially requested this to our office,” Seguritan said.
The said resolution was referred to the proper committee for appropriation.
Rizal, which is in the southern part of Palawan, is considered to be the home of at least 50,000 Palaw’ans in its 11 barangays.
The Palaw’an indigenous group has the 2nd biggest population – over 80,000 strong – among 7 tribal groups present in the island province.
Otol Odi, the town’s local chief executive, is also a member of the indigenous community.
