On the recently held virtual presser of PIA-Palawan, Provincial Commission of Election (COMELEC) Information officer Jomel Ordas said that there is still no specific date or schedule for the 2020 Palawan division plebiscite which was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Sa plebiscite ‘yan po ay nasa COMELEC En Banc po natin yung authority para sabihin kung kelan yung schedule,” Ordas said.
Through the Memorandum dated March 25 approved by the COMMISION En Banc the suspension of all preparatory activities relative to the conduct of the plebiscite to ratify the division of the Province of Palawan, the suspension of the plebiscite was effective immediately.
“Ang isinagawang pag-aaral ng comelec to determine kung kelan dapat ireschedule ang plebiscite ay base po sa inilatag na requirements ng NIATF which the comelec must comply first bago iconduct ang plebiscite ngayong pandemic. Ang main priority ay to conduct a credible and safe plebiscite…to generate important health safety measures na dapat iimplement to ensure safety of both the voters and the poll workers under new normal setting,” Ordas stated.
Furthermore Palawan’s first week voter registration turn-out from September 1-5, 2020 total applications received is 1,301 (Puerto Princesa City – 444; Province of Palawan – 877).
