The Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) through Dr. Romeo Cabungcal ensured that Palawan will have enough supply despite the impact on agricultural land and animals brought by typhoon Odette last December.
Cabungcal noted that despite Odette’s damage on terms of agriculture areas on various towns in the province, supplies of high value crops such as rice and corn would be impossible.
He said that Odette hasn’t brought any serious damage on farmlands located in the southern towns of Palawan.
“Ayon po doon sa ating datus, hindi naman ito gaanong makaka-apekto dahil ‘yung ating Southern Palawan which is the source ng ating mga supply ng bigas and given ‘yung munisipyo ng Taytay ay kakaunti lamang ‘yung damages,” Cabungcal said.
Furthermore, Cabungccal said that food security is ensured in the province.
“Actual report ngayon ay may nagha-harvest pa rin na magsasaka doon sa iba’t-ibang munisipyo kasi ang aming opisina ay nagko-consolidate ng mga report galling sa mga munisipyo at kung ating susumahin ay hindi naman ganoon ang epekto,” Cabungcal said.
OPA also recommended that although the province has food security, planting of fast crops or vegetables as alternative livelihood of farmers are their main priority to aid Palawan farmers who have been affected by Odette’s onslaught.
