The Palawan Provincial Government has contributed an additional P18 million to help Bataraza complete its preparations for hosting this year’s Provincial Meet and to support the athletes from the participating municipalities.

The fund was generated through a supplemental budget request that was approved by the provincial local school board and the provincial government after a meeting with Palawan Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates on April 12.

In recent years, the provincial government has given some island towns financial assistance, but this time, San Vicente Mayor Amy Alvarez made a plea for help for all athletes, even those who compete in mainland Palawan.

“Ito ay kaugnay sa kahiligan ng ating San Vicente Mayor at President ng League of Municipal Mayors na sana ay lahat ng munisipyo ay mabigyan ng tulong, hindi lang ‘yung mga island municipalities,” Board Member Rafael Ortega said during the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s session on Tuesday, April 18.

According to Ortega, the number of delegates and the distance between a participating town and the host municipality will determine the level of financial support.

“Siyempre depende sa layo ng isang munisipyo sa Bataraza. Kino-consider ‘yung gagastusin at ‘yung classification ng munisipyo, doon naka-base ang qualifications ng tulong,” Ortega said.

Ortega said that the following towns will receive financial aid:

Aborlan – P150,000
Agutaya – P200,000
Araceli – P150,000
Balabac – P300,000
Brooke’s Point – P150,000
Busuanga – P500,000
Cagayancillo – P150,000
Coron – P500,000
Culion – P400,000
Cuyo – P400,000
Dumaran – P250,000
El Nido – P200,000
Linapacan – P250,000
Magsaysay – P250,000
Narra – P150,000
Quezon – P150,00
Rizal – P200,000
Roxas – P200,000
San Vicente – P150,000
Sofronio Espanola – P200,000

Taytay – P200,000

All towns will receive a total of P5.1 million. An additional P2.5 million will be set out for the food supplies, and P2 million more will go to the Governor’s Night, which will take place on the final evening of the Provincial Meet.

There is also a P1.4 million compensation payment set aside in case the athletes experience any sort of emergency while competing.

Starting in early May, thousands of coaches, assistants, sports administrators, and players from the 23 municipalities in Palawan are anticipated to go to Bataraza.

On May 7, the kick-off parade and the provincial competition will officially begin.
