The Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) convened its 3rd Quarter Meeting on September 8, 2023, at the VJR Hall, located within the Provincial Capitol Building in Puerto Princesa City.
Eduardo Modesto V. Rodriguez, Program Manager of SPS-Cares/PADAP, took the lead during the meeting, representing Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates, who serves as the Chairman of PADAC. Assisting him in presiding over the meeting was PLTCOL June R. Rian from the Palawan Provincial Police Office, serving as the Vice Chairman of the council.
The meeting served as a platform for various stakeholders to come together and discuss pertinent matters related to drug abuse prevention and rehabilitation programs. Among the key topics discussed were updates on the PADAP program and seminars conducted by the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (MADACs).
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also presented an important update on the Audit Report and the status of municipalities in 2022. This provided valuable insights into the progress made at the local level in addressing drug-related issues.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) shared insights into the recent Barangay Drug Clearing Program and the outcomes of the PDEA Training of Trainers. These initiatives play a pivotal role in combating drug abuse at the community level.
Moreover, the Provincial Health Office highlighted ongoing training efforts for Municipal Health Officers (MHOs) to become accredited Drug Accreditation Doctors, contributing to a more robust healthcare response to drug-related concerns.
The meeting didn’t stop there; discussions also revolved around the reactivation of the Provincial Drug Laboratory and the operationalization of the Provincial Drug Rehabilitation and Wellness Center (PDRWC).
These endeavors underscore the commitment to addressing drug issues from both a law enforcement and rehabilitation perspective.
Lastly, SPS Cares shared updates on collaborations with Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices (MSWDOs) concerning Aftercare and Reintegration programs, as well as accreditations.
One notable development was the heightened coordination efforts between PADAC and the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Programs (MADAP) to ensure the effective implementation of the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBBDRP) across all municipalities. This concerted effort aims to provide support and rehabilitation services to those affected by drug abuse, ultimately fostering a drug-free and healthier community.
