Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Members Sharon Abiog-Onda and Cherry Pie Acosta debated on the location of student dormitories by the Provincial Government.
On the 9th regular session of the 43rd Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Board Member Sharon Abiog-onda proposed a resolution requesting Sen. Joel Villanueva, the Chair of the Senate Committee on Higher Education, to allocate funds to construct student dormitories in Palawan.
Abiog-onda proposed that the dormitories be located close to the Palawan State University and Western Philippines University campuses in Puerto Princesa, arguing that the campuses in the municipalities are only extension campuses. But she also said that the dorms be constructed on the municipalities should the need arises.
Meanwhile, Board Member Cherry Pie Acosta proposed instead to construct three dormitories outside Puerto Princesa City, as she said that only Puerto Princesa would benefit from the proposal.
Sabi nga natin kanina, ay walang masama sa paghiling ng project o programs na gagawin sa Puerto,” Acosta said in an interview with the media.
Board Member David Francis Ponce de Leon suggested instead to wait for the plebiscite on 2020 on the division of Palawan into three provinces.
Acosta countered this proposal, as she underlined the benefit it will bring to the students even in the extension campuses.
“Ba’t kailangan natin antayin ‘yun?
