11 fishermen nabbed in Araceli for illegal fishing

The Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Araceli and Bantay Dagat, apprehended 11 fishermen conducting illegal fishing at the vicinity waters of Brgy. Osmeña, Araceli, Palawan.

According to the report of CGSS Araceli, the said fishermen were aboard 2 motor bangka and were caught using a compressor on September 9, 2021.

“Upon receipt of the report from a concerned citizen, personnel of CGSS Araceli and Bantay Dagat immediately departed Araceli Pier utilizing motor bangka from the LGU to conduct operations at the abovementioned area,” CGSS said on their social media.

The team intercepted motor banca named MBCA ANDRO with 5 fishermen onboard and MBCA FERLYN with 6 fishermen.

The fishermen violated Municipal Ordinance No. 42, Series of 1996 or “Illegal Fishing Activity Using Compressor”. CGSS added that the motor bangka and its fishermen were brought to their station for profiling and proper inventory of illegal fishing paraphernalia with an estimated value of ₱ 53,700.00.

The 2 fishing boats were turned over to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Araceli and 11 fishermen faced fines and penalties prior to release.
